چکیده

Zebras are members of the horse family. There are three species of zebras: the plains zebra Equus quagga, the Grevy's zebra E. grevyi and the mountain zebra E. zebra. The Grevy's zebra and the mountain zebra are endangered, and hybridization between the Grevy's zebra and the plains zebra has been documented, leading to a requirement for conservation genetic management within and between the species. We characterized 28 microsatellite markers in Grevy's zebra and assessed cross-amplification in plains zebra and two of its subspecies, as well as mountain zebra. A range of standard indices were employed to examine population genetic diversity and hybrid populations between Grevy's and plains zebra were simulated to investigate subspecies and hybrid detection. Microsatellite marker polymorphism was conserved across species with sufficient variation to enable individual identification in all populations. Comparative diversity estimates indicated greater genetic variation in plains zebra and its subspecies than Grevy's zebra, despite potential ascertainment bias. Species and subspecies differentiation were clearly demonstrated and F1 and F2 hybrids were correctly identified. These findings provide insights into captive population genetic diversity in zebras and support the use of these markers for identifying hybrids, including the known hybrid issue in the endangered Grevy's zebra.

Genetic Assessments and Parentage Analysis of Captive Bolson Tortoises (Gopherus flavomarginatus) Inform Their “Rewilding” in New Mexico

The Bolson tortoise (Gopherus flavomarginatus) is the first species of extirpated megafauna to be repatriated into the United States. In September 2006, 30 individuals were translocated from Arizona to New Mexico with the long-term objective of restoring wild populations via captive propagation. We evaluated mtDNA sequences and allelic diversity among 11 microsatellite loci from the captive pop...

The aim of this study was identifying different populations and determining the genetic characteristics of three different sub-adult stocks of Litopenaeus vannamei in hatchery of Iran Shrimp Research Center by microsatellites DNA markers in Bushehr province during from October to November 2019. Up to 50 individuals were sampled per stock, with equal contribution by sex. The tissue preserved in ...

Compare genetic variation for roach (Rutilus rutilus caspicus Linnaeus, 1758) resulting from the proliferation of wild broodstock, breeding and hybrid (wild broodstock × fusion) using microsatellite markers

The aim of present study was to compare levels of genetic polymorphism between offspring of  wild , farmed and mix of them of Roach (Rurilus rutilus caspicus) using five microsatellite loci  (CA1, CA7, CypG27, Lid1, Rru4). Genetic diversity was investigated by studying samples collected from three population, 90 fish, thirty specimen form each population. All samples fixed in ethanol 96% until ...

Genetic diversity of North American captive-born gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla)

Western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) are designated as critically endangered and wild populations are dramatically declining as a result of habitat destruction, fragmentation, diseases (e.g., Ebola) and the illegal bushmeat trade. As wild populations continue to decline, the genetic management of the North American captive western lowland gorilla population will be an important co...

Zebra Alphaherpesviruses (EHV-1 and EHV-9): Genetic Diversity, Latency and Co-Infections

Alphaherpesviruses are highly prevalent in equine populations and co-infections with more than one of these viruses' strains frequently diagnosed. Lytic replication and latency with subsequent reactivation, along with new episodes of disease, can be influenced by genetic diversity generated by spontaneous mutation and recombination. Latency enhances virus survival by providing an epidemiologica...
